How Your Values Determine Your Destiny

what are values?

The Greek philosophy of axiology is one of the least studied ‘ology’s’ but is arguably one of the most important.

Axiology is the study of the nature of value and valuation, and of the kinds of things that are valuable and formed the cornerstones of aesthetics and economics.

The original meaning of the word philosophy meaning love of wisdom therefore Axiology is the love and wisdom of values.

So if values are that important, what is a value?

A value is anything that you place importance upon. So effectively, anything that you deem important can be called a value.

Your values are created from a perception of a void that you have. And it’s really important that you understand what is a perception of a void, so it isn’t necessarily there is a void, there is just your perception. These perceptions can be determined from your conscious mind or from your subconscious mind.

The thing that you perceive most missing in your life then becomes what you perceive as the most important thing in your life.

Your private voids are your overlying public values. When you get clear on your values and you identify what your values are, then you can consciously shape your own destiny, maybe for the first time in your life rather than be living someone else’s destiny by having a set of values that have been injected or projected onto you which is how the majority of the population live without realising it, I too used to be one of those people!

Values hierarchy

The more important a value is, the higher it will be on your hierarchy because not all values are equal. There’s a hierarchy, and there’s an order to them. The more important a value is, the higher it will be on your hierarchy. The more discipline and order you have associated with that thing that you value most. Additionally, what you value most will be what you have the best memory around or your memory recalls the best around it.

On the opposite end of the spectrum, the thing that you have a place least value on will be a thing you have least discipline, and most disorder and lit, and the lowest memory recall around.

Two types of values

You have a means value, which is typically something that you do, and then you have an end value, which is typically a feeling. For example, someone might have a means value of socializing with friends, but their end value is connection. And you could have somebody else that has a means value of connection, but the way that they get that is via spending time with family for example.

If it’s is a different ‘doing’ it’s a different means value but the end value is the same as what it is that they’re looking to create.

But ultimately, all mean values are leading to fulfillment, the feeling that we’re all striving for ultimately.

Take the word fulfillment: full – fil – ment.

Your values come from a perceived void. So what you’re mind is wanting to do is fill

that void and you’re meant to do it so it is filled therefore cultivating fulfillment.

I encourage you to use the word fulfillment instead of the word happiness because happiness is one end of a spectrum, the other end of the spectrum is sadness.

What’s beautiful about living to your values, is that you can experience challenges, drawbacks, and disadvantages and still feel fulfilled with the appropriate perspective.

That said, optimal growth happens on the border of support and challenge, benefit and drawbacks, advantages and disadvantages, etc.

When you perceive yourself to be at the border this will also mean you’re living in balance.

The importance of identifying your values so that you’re able to consciously live and create a fulfilled life.

So, how do we do that? Well, let’s start with how you identify what your values are.

Awaken your genius

When you live according to your highest values you’ll become inspired and operate in your zone of genius.

When you live according to your lowest values you’ll require and you suppress your zone of genius.

Your current North Star will reflect your current highest means and end values.

Until next time… make it happen.
